Plan and Schedule Your Day
Planning will put some order into your day. Use a calendar or personal planner to organize tasks and appointments.
Create a daily schedule and stick to it. Remember to add family events to your calendar. By sticking to your schedule you will actually save a lot of time because you will remain focused.
Keep Lists
Creating lists of all the things you need to do will help you to stay on task. Without a list you tend to be more disorganized.
Keep your lists a reasonable length to you can feel productive as you start crossing stuff off the list.
Delegate Tasks
Remember, you simply cannot do everything all by yourself. Whenever you can, ask family members for help. Delegate chores to your kids. If you can afford to, hire a professional to to help out.
Limit Distractions
If at all possible, turn of the cell phone. Shut down the email program. Simply focus on the task at hand and try to see it through to completion.
Stay away from social networking sites that can be a great source of distraction. Save those as reward for a job completed.
Group Similar Tasks
Learn to group similar tasks together. This will save you a great deal of time. For example, do the dishes or pick up after the kids while talking on the phone.
Simplify Repeated Tasks
Create processes, forms, templates, and checklists to save time on frequent tasks. For example, if you spend a lot of time answering the same questions by email, create a template email that you can just modify and send.
Identify Time Wasters
Many of the activities that we regularly complete are in fact, time wasters. For example, have you ever said to yourself that you will play just one more round of a game on the computer, or check out the latest updates on one more of your favorite sits?
Limit the time you spend on these activities and you will be able to save a good chunk of time.
