1. Enjoy a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains and cooked dried beans and peas daily.

2. Consume antioxidant rich foods such as citrus fruits for vitamin C, dark-green leafy vegetables, carrots and apricots for beta-carotene and wheat germ for vitamin E.

3. Restrict intake of sugar and saturated fats, which hinders the body’s immune system and makes the body vulnerable to infections and allergies.

4. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. This may help the body to eliminate toxins effectively.

5. Avoid eating just before bedtime or eating a large meal and then lying down on the sofa.

6. Stay out of strong, direct sunlight to prevent sun damage. Before exposure to the sun, do apply sun screen, ointment or cream to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.

7. Exercise regularly. Exercise helps improve blood circulation, fight stress and aid expulsion of waste matter through sweat.

8. Manage stress effectively as stress reduces circulation to the brain and starves brain cells of oxygen and nutrients. Yoga, aromatherapy, massage session and music therapy provide emotional comfort and help in stress relief.

9. Keep your alcohol and caffeine intake low.

10. Stop smoking.
